around the world.
TRADE BARRIERS
REGULATION
EU Commission concludes
investigation on US internet gambling laws
The investigation has found that US
laws on remote gambling and their enforcement against EU companies
constitute an obstacle to trade that is inconsistent with WTO rules.

COMMISSIONER ASHTON
ON...
. the trade finance
initiative
The best way to fully restore trade
finance to normal levels is to restore confidence in the financial sector
as a whole. We must strengthen and co-ordinate international action, but
even so it is clear that it will take time to rebuild confidence. In the
meantime, governments and international institutions must step in to plug
the gap in private sector finance and help trade financing reach
businesses in the developed and developing world.
... the Trade Barriers
Regulation
"It is for the US to decide how best to
regulate Internet gambling in its market, but this must be done in a way
that fully respects WTO obligations. I am hopeful that we can find a
swift, negotiated solution to this issue."
. battling protectionism in
Europe
"We ve got to increase our efforts to
make sure that we dont fall into what is called `protectionism` that is
putting up barriers to trade and we need to move forward to join together
to keep trade flowing."
