MARKET ACCESS STRATEGY Commission keen to help small businesses into more trade opportunities There are more than 23 million SMEs in the EU, representing 99% of EU companies, but only 3% of them export outside the EU. Representatives of SME organisations, of the European Parliament, of the Member States and of the Commission are looking into how existing support measures for SMEs can be improved during a High Level Stakeholder Conference in Brussels.

AFRICA CARIBBEAN PACIFIC EU pledges EPAs will boost ACP development
Addressing the Plenary of the European Parliament this week Catherine Ashton has pledged that new economic partnership agreements (EPA) with African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries will serve development and offer developing countries the opportunity for advancement and growth.

Overview of on-going dispute settlement cases published
The Commission has published its latest up-date of the list of active WTO Dispute Settlement Cases involving the European Community as complainant or defendant and of active cases under the Trade Barriers Regulation.

"I believe that these are good agreements that support economic development and integration in the ACP and provide stability in these economically turbulent times. They are partnership agreements founded on the shared goal of development that make trade the servant of this objective not the reverse. Most of all, they are agreements that provide the opportunity for ACP states to lift their citizens out of poverty through the dignity of their own labour and the genius of their own ideas."
