European Commission comments on the decision to impose duties on US biodiesel
This decision was taken on the basis of clear evidence that unfair subsidisation and dumping of US biodiesel has taken place. The Commission will make a final recommendation to EU member states on whether or not to impose so-called 'definitive' duties.

EU and China to continue cooperation on IPR
High-level officials from China and the EU met in Brussels to present progress on strengthening intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and enforcement. On the agenda was China's national IP strategy and progress made under the bilateral co-operation programme on the protection of intellectual property rights.

WTO Trade Policy Review - EU urges Brazil to resist protectionism
The European Union has called on Brazil to resist protectionism, and raised concerns about trade barriers in the country as part of the fifth WTO Trade Policy Review of Brazil. EU representatives pointed to concerns over levels of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) enforcement, non-tariff barriers (NTBs), and excessive red tape for businesses.

"After a thorough investigation based on the facts in this case, the Commission has today
decided to apply temporary duties on imports of US biodiesel. Anti-dumping and anti-subsidy measures are not about protectionism, they are about fighting unfair trade. This decision was taken on the basis of clear evidence that unfair subsidisation and dumping of US biodiesel has taken place, and that this is harming otherwise competitive EU industry, with potentially dire long term effects."


Registration for public observation of the Appellate Body hearing in the WTO dispute "United States - Laws, Regulations and Methodology for Calculating Dumping Margins ("Zeroing") - Recourse to Article 21.5 of the DSU by the European Communities" (WT/DS294/RW)
At the request of the European Union and the United States, the parties in the above dispute, the Appellate Body division has decided to open its hearing to public viewing at the WTO Headquarters in Geneva. The hearing will take place on 23 and 24 March 2009.
Deadline: Monday, 16/03/2009, 5pm (Geneva time).
